BIO at http://bit.ly/2A9jKYG: Farley Jackmaster Funk, King of House Music
. (Biographical information) – January 25, 1962, Chicago, Illinois
The First House Music Pioneer Farley Williams (musically known as Farley Jackmaster Funk) started out as a radio host Dj turned Artist, Producer, Song Writer, Director and TV Presenter that’s known around the world as The King of House Music for bringing this form of music style alive and in 1986 to the shores of England thus
putting House Music on the map.
He released the biggest house record in history “Love Can’t Turn Around,” as it was the 1st House Music track and song to appear on the British Pop Charts and top of the pops on all the European Charts. He then followed up with a top 10 hit House Nation and Acid Life along with a host of over 20 huge hit Records. In his tenure of work, Farley is definitely responsible for popularizing House Music.
He got the King title in 1984 as he was recognized by his peers as the man who broke 100% of every house song in the city with the Hot Mix 5 radio show on WBMX that started airing in late 1981. Farley’s power with this show and House Music was so strong that he left WBMX radio to go to a revival station WGCI that was number 10 in the market and started another DJ team called the Jack master 6 which took that station #1.
In 1985, only to find himself back at WBMX a year later as he was the most sought after DJ in America for his incredible House Music Programming and House Nation following.
Todate, globally House Music is a billion dollar industry and Farley is responsible for creating it as he took House Music into Legend, along with becoming the biggest iconic figure in this new thing called House Music which he revisited the same charts and the world charts in 1988 which was the summer of love with another Top 10 hit under AKA name the House Master Boys where Farley had several pseudo-names that he recorded
under and that were top secret.
With a musical career spanning three decades, Farley Jackmaster Funk has been accredited with an unimaginable amount of accolades, but none more significant than being an original member of house music’sfounding father. Others have lauded him the originator of the term ‘house,‘ when electronic drum tracks were
songs and vocals on a beat track were hypnotic which prior to ’83 was being called ‘Farley’s Foot’ as he utilized a Roland TR-808 drum machine when playing his sets to ‘boost the beat’.
In 1984, He named the very first House Music record Label House Records to define the lifestyle of and sound of his music in Chicago which he broke every day with his groundbreaking radio show the Saturday Night Live Ain't No Jive Chicago dance party with his Dj Team. The Hotmix 5 where Farley was the first DJ in history to play House Music on the radio in 1984 thus breaking House Music to Millions of listeners daily and
every Friday & Saturday nights on radio station WBMX 102.7 FM where for the first time Chicago and the world heard House Music.
He then began to give opportunities to all new artist from Sweet d' Danny Wilson, Xaviera Gold, Chip E, Marshall Jefferson, Robert Owens, Frankie Knuckles, Jamie Principle, and to date thousands of Artist/ Dj’s including Detroit Dj’s Derrick May, Kevin Saunders on Juan Atkins, you name them and Farley played and broke their music thus breaking new artist that never would have gotten a chance to be heard by the Chicago Massive Record Buying Market.

He came from very humble beginnings as he worked for his father’s dry cleaning business in 1969 til 1972 and got bit by the Music Bug by his older brothers playing James Brown To Aretha Franklin as he loved the early soul & funk days while growing up in the middle-class south side of Chicago where he also began to Dj small parties in the basements of his block club, friends and shortly after that got a chance to play music to adults while standing on top of milk crates and they enjoyed it so much that they paid him and that was all she wrote.
Throughout Farley’s career, he put his finger on the production of House Music by producing & mixing 70 % of all the House Music Songs, even helping legends like Earth Wind & Fire, Diane Ross, Luke Sky Walker, JM Silk, Jesse Saunders, John Rocca, Arthur Baker, Steve Silk Hurley, Ten City, Michael Jackson, Ricky Dillard,
Shawn Christopher, Joe Smooth, Giorgio Moroder, Ian Levine, Robert while this new generation of musicians like Common are making songs about his legend.
Farley has always lead the way with his music and took other artist along with him by breaking some of the most impressive House Music Records in history like “Move Your Body” by Marshall Jefferson, Artist like Ten City, Steve Silk Hurley, DJ Pierre, Roger Sanchez, Kenny Bobien, Armando and 100’s of other artists.
When Farley showed up on the other side of pond (in England), his driver was Paul Okenfelt whose now one of the world’s top DJs that was inspired by him. Farley has traveled the world (3) times over and has played in every
country and he constantly hears stories like that while representing House Music.
Here’s another quote from the most famous DJ of today. “France’s David Guetta belongs to the sparkling wave of DJs who combine Daft Punk’s sleek house music with a pinch of electroclash’s punch. Guetta had been DJ-ing around France playing popular tunes, but his brain was particularly rewired in 1987 when he heard a Farley Jackmaster Funk track on French radio. A year later when acid house came to France and Guetta
successfully promoted his own club nights. The result was “Up and Away.”
December of 2013, Farley is the only DJ/Producer who is inducted into the U.S. Dance Music Hall of Fame twice for his work and with his Hot Mix 5 Radio DJ team.
(The U.S. Dance Music Hall Of Fame was established to create a point of reference of
how we got from disco to club music to house music, trance and all forms of electronic
dance music or including EDM. The USDMHOF is a comprehensive look at the bodies of
work from those who’ve contributed to the acceptance of dance music as a legitimate
music style as opposed to the ‘bastard child of music’ it had often been labeled in the
The United States, through the years.
To understand the struggles of dance music, one has to go back to disco and understand that ‘dance music’ here in the States had never been taken seriously by the Program Directors, Music Directors, and radio stations.
Through the years, dance music [and those who created, promoted, worked within the field and DJ’s] we’re never given the respect they so rightly deserved).
Farley has several Proclamation Letters (from the President, Mayor,
Governor, Secretary of State, Congressman, Council & Alderman).
May 02 is deemed as Farley Jackmaster Funk Day and 3 street signs
are being placed around the city of Chicago on his behalf. One
located in the famous tourist district by the Buckingham Foundation,
one by the club where he was a resident DJ and one will go in his
childhood neighborhood.
The city of Chicago has reached out to Farley to work with him on constructing the very first House Music Museum because throughout the world House Music is so explosive globally in dance music. Hopefully, it’s to be completed by 2018 as Chicago is known as the House Music Capitol of the world, thanks to Farley’s brilliant Creative Music Genius.
1990, Farley Jackmaster Funk became a Brit Award Nominee, (The annual British music industry bash had been growing in every way for a number of years. In 1989, it changed its name to the BRIT Awards of Margaret Thatcher choosing her favorite pop songs. In 1986 he became a DMC Winner, beating out Janet Jackson and more famous performance groups of that time.).
Below are other brief articles of Farley’s legacy and his musical body of work: (Resident advisor article) The True King Of House Music.
When a new style of music first cracks the pop charts, the hit is usually a deliberate crossover by an artist having little to do with the music's original pioneers. The first house single to reach the charts, however, was recorded by seminal Chicago DJ and producer, Farley Jackmaster Funk. His cover of Isaac Hayes' "Love Can't
Turn Around" made the Top Ten in mid-1986 – ironically, not in his home country but in the U.K. – at the same time that he was one of the biggest names in Chicago house. Born in 1962, Farley began DJing while still a teenager.

Real Name: Farley Keith Williams
Profile: DJ and producer. First made his name broadcasting on Chicago's WBMX-FM as a member of the Hot Mix
5 DJ team. Farley also appeared at the Warehouse club and then began a residency at the Playground.
Known as Farley Keith or Farley Funkin’ Keith until 1984. He then adopted the name Farley “Jackmaster” Funk and together with Jesse Saunders, created the first house single to reach the UK charts. His anthem Love Can’t Turn Around (cover of Isaac Hayes; I Can’t Turn Around) made the Top Ten in mid-1986.
http://www.gridface.com/features/chicago_house/ 1987 was a pivotal year in Chicago’s short but sweet house music scene. The Muzic Box and the Power Plant had already closed, yet promoters were beginning to throw big tent parties at hotels and theaters, and more adult clubs like A.K.A. were Farley begin to spin house music. Club LaRay, C.O.D., and Medusa’s were still going strong. Meanwhile, house music’s market was increasingly shifting overseas, (with a cover proclaiming “The House Sound of Chicago”). By my count, the number of local record labels doubled.Needless to say, radio DJs,
including 1984-1986 Farley mixes, shifted from a mix of boogie and Italo to almost
all Chicago house. Some Detroit tracks were finally beginning to sneak in, too.

Farley has created countless opportunities for employment to young men who see DJing as a way of supporting their families, and so many who have now made a name for themselves in the music industry.
Many have come back to say thank you, but what makes him special amongst his peers is that he doesn’t look for an award for something that he loves to do and that is to pull up as many people as he can. He has spent countless hours using his celebrity status to help other organizations around the city of Chicago.
